Cliffs Natural Resources, a mine operator, has announced plans to cut production at six of its North American iron ore mines and one coal operation in the wake of lower steel demands.
Expectations for iron ore production were originally set at 23 million tons but have dropped to approximately 15 million tons at its mines in Michigan, Minnesota, and Canada., said the Cleveland-based company.
Separately, Cliffs says it's decreasing expected US coal production by 100,000 tons. One hundred workers at the company's Pinnacle Complex in West Virginia are scheduled to be laid off as well.
