USEC Incorporated announced Thursday that it awarded Fluor Corporation a $1 billion-dollar contract to design and build a centrifuge plant that will be used to enrich uranium for nuclear power plants. The company claims the new plant will be a long-term source of fuel for current and future reactors.
The terms of the contract last until 2012 and cover
engineering, procurement,
construction, and
management services for a plant in Piketon, Ohio. The new contract is expected to create 1,000 jobs, including 800 in Ohio.
In 2004 USEC previously awarded Fluor a contract to design and build a demonstration facility and to provide an initial plant design. Fluor is an Irving, Texas-based company that recorded $16.7 billion in revenue in 2007.
