Sponsored by the Washington, DC, Center for American Progress and authored at the University of Massachusetts, the report proposes that all levels of government invest $100 billion nationwide to develop a green infrastructure that includes expanding alternative energy sources and mass transit and retrofitting buildings to improve energy efficiency.

Titled “Green Recovery -- A Program to Create Good Jobs and Start Building a Low-Carbon Economy,” the report says the two million jobs would be created over only two years.

Later this fall, the same group will publish a fuller study that addresses the longer-term challenges and opportunities created by building a clean-energy economy.

Numerous business owners and the AFL-CIO support the findings.
