The Electrical Systems Engineer â€“ Installed Base will be responsible for NPI support of the electrical systems for the 50,000 unit fleet of GE turbines, including 1x Non-ESS, 1x ESS and 2.0-2.3MW ratings. This includes converters, generators, transformers, control panels and low voltage power distribution cabinets.
This role is not intended to provide support for all field issues, it will focus on field issues and customer requests requiring development of new technical solutions, including retrofit kits for quality problems, obsolescence issues, and recommendations for converter control modifications. In this role, you will work closely with the fleet support engineering teams, services NPI, drafting, sourcing, manufacturing and suppliers.
As the Electrical System Engineer â€“ Installed Base, you will:
Develop build to print / build to spec design packages for upgrades and retrofits to electrical control and power distribution cabinets, including schematics, Bills of Material (BOM), wire routing, assembly drawings, cabinet sheet metal fabrication drawings and specifications of components
Support sourcing qualification of replacement components to substitute for obsolete parts, including writing a specification and execution of a test plan
Respond to customer questions and requests for support from field personnel
Translate wind turbine system requirements into hardware definition
Work with Services teams to issue fleet notifications, such at TILs and ETCs
Support customer and field service questions regarding arcflash analysis and PPE requirements
Work with New unit and Services product line teams to market and â€œproduct-izeâ€ improvements to installed hardware and software
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 3 years of experience with Wind Turbine electrical systems and/or power generation electrical systems
Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time
Experience with regulatory standards, including North American standards (i.e., UL 508A, C22.2 no 14), European directives (i.e., Low Voltage Directive, Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC) with requirements for CE marking)
Experience with PLCâ€™s, motor control circuitry, control networks, low voltage power distribution and breaker / fuse selection and coordination
Experience with 1 MW power converters / inverters
Experience working with wind turbine components
Experience with doubly fed induction generators
Experience programming PLCâ€™s and/or other industrial controllers, including sequential function chart languages
Experience with design for six-sigma, design for reliability, design for manufacturability and/or design to cost
Experience / expertise designing mechanical enclosures, including welded or bolted cabinet assemblies
Experience with design tools (i.e., ePlan, Unigraphics / NX)
MarkVIe and ControlST experienc
Strong presentation and communication skills
