Role Summary: GE Renewable Energy�??s Power Conversion team applies the science and systems of power conversion to help drive the electric transformation of the world�??s infrastructure. Designing and delivering advanced motor, drive and control technologies that evolve today�??s industrial processes for a cleaner, more productive future, we serve specialized sectors such as energy, marine, industry and all related services. Essential Responsibilities: As a Lead Power Electronics Design Engineer, you will:Define product requirements based on analysis of power conversion applicationsDevelop power converter product conceptsDevelop system models and evaluate product concepts and designDesign, select, specify, and validate critical power components (e.g. IGBTs, IGCTs, Diodes, capacitors, inductors, contactors, fuses)Develop and perform product validation test plansPerform power circuit protection and coordination studies, circuit design, and component selectionParticipate in FMEA and risk assessment activitiesProvide technical clarification of designs with suppliers and manufacturingWork with a multi-disciplinary engineering development team that includes application engineering, power conversion design, controls engineering, mechanical design, control hardware design, and product test / validationWork with manufacturing and sourcing to test and qualify components and assemblies for production and resolve issues as needed to maintain product qualityWork with product support teams to determine root cause of component or system failures and implement corrective actions to meet product reliability goals for customersWork with external consultants and third parties to achieve certification of product designs (UL, CSA, CE, etc.) Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent expertiseMinimum of 3 years experience designing and validating high-power power conversion products Desired Characteristics: Familiarity with simulation tools such as Dynamic system simulators (Saber, MATLAB), Circuit simulation (Saber, SPICE), Power electronic device modeling (Saber), and Electro-thermal modeling of power devicesFamiliarity with Instrumentation and measurement of power convertersWorking knowledge of power electronics, power distribution and control systemsDemonstrated ability to meet goals and objectives Effective technical documentation skillsEffective communication and presentation skillsProven interpersonal and leadership skillsMaster's Degree in Electrical Engineering Familiarity with low & medium voltage insulation systems-partial discharge theory and testing methodsFamiliarity with NFPA 70 and 70E and Arc Flash analysis (EasyPower or SKM) and testingFamiliarity with electric machine modeling and controlFamiliarity with NEC, IEC, UL, and CSA regulatory standardsFamiliarity with reliability analysis Working knowledge of electric motor drives or photovoltaic system technologiesMBB / BB, DFSS certified (GE employees only)To stay connected with exciting news and the latest job opportunities from GE businesses, follow us on twitter: @geconnections Locations: United States; Virginia; SalemGE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening.
