Mechanical Engineering II III (R17-687)
In this role, youll provide mechanical engineering solutions to complex plant operations and maintenance problems at the Beaver combined cycle power plant. Youll act as plant expert and resource in the mechanical engineering and gas turbine fields. This position is key to maintaining and improving plant safety, reliability, efficiency and regulatory compliance in a responsible and progressive manner.
You will support our journey by:
Providing engineered solutions and implement changes to resolve complex plant operations and maintenance problems, including, but not limited to:
Investigating, identifying and clearly defining plant problems.
Providing cost effective and accurate solutions to the problems.
Ensuring solutions meet technical requirements, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements and follow sound engineering practices.
Providing written and verbal technical guidance and instructions to support implementation of solutions to the problems.
Ensuring that projects are followed through to completion on time and on budget; provide direction to other engineers, technicians, drafters and designers.
Providing document revisions showing changes that were made to resolve the problems.
Planning, organizing, scheduling, coordinating, monitoring and reviewing several projects at a time.
Providing recommendations and input for short and long term outage planning.
Providing technical recommendations to management on various plant systems in regards to improvements, overhauls and emergency repairs.
Analyzing, responding to, and performing technical studies, reports and provide data in response to technical matters or reporting requirements as assigned, including:
Reviewing plant operation and maintenance information to identify problems and inform others of conditions.
Conducting assignments in a thorough and efficient manner ensuring accuracy and completeness of information.
Assisting personnel from government regulating agencies during inspections or as requested.
Supporting ongoing gas pipeline safety program at Beaver
Performing inspections of plant equipment and systems, including:
Visually inspecting equipment/component conditions to determine if repair, replacement or upgrading is needed to continue proper operation.
Inspecting and reviewing system operation and condition to determine if changes are needed to allow proper operation or to improve operation.
Inspecting fabrication/installation work to ensure it meets codes and standards.
Providing complete and proper documentation of conditions found.
Perform testing of plant equipment and systems, including:
Reviewing equipment and system operation to determine if it is maintaining its design condition or output, or whether it has deteriorated to the point that repairs are needed.
Performing performance tests on the major pieces of plant equipment to allow tracking of their condition and extent of deterioration.
Developing and updating test procedures.
Gain familiarity with the proper operation and function of systems and equipment.
Gain certification in non-destructive testing methods.
Assist other company departments in the resolution of associated plant problems, including:
Providing input and assistance to PSES on DCPs, ABRs and other plant related work.
Providing information and assistance to power scheduling, fuels, etc. on plant operation and maintenance.
Providing assistance to other plant departments such as ordering spare equipment parts, contacting vendors for information, training, developing procedures, etc.
Performing contract administration functions for work done by outside vendors or contractors and project manager functions including budgeting and scheduling. At the Engineer III level, you will bring the following skills to our team:
Requires a Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, and 8 years of responsible engineering experience or 4 years of engineering experience with a professional engineering (PE) license.
Support a pro-active safety culture and lead by example.
Thorough knowledge of fundamental engineering/economic principles and concepts.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Excellent project management and leadership skills.
Basic knowledge of welding and inspections process.
Knowledge of Power Piping, Boiler Code and Industrial Gas Turbines
Good oral and written communication skills, including group presentation and human relations skills.
Basic perspective of the utility business.
Basic knowledge of concepts and systems of combine cycle power plant.
An ability to review, evaluate, and analyze technical information, policies, and reports.
Demonstrated ability and skills in a field of specialization.
A valid drivers license and a history of safe driving practices.
The ability to climb ladders, stairs and remain on their feet for prolonged periods of time.
The ability to access restricted and confined entries such as manways and underground vaults without reservation, including hot, dirty, wet, suspended and confined spaces in a safe and at ease manner. At the Engineer II level, the requirements are the same as above, except:
A Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, and four years of responsible engineering experience or two years of engineering experience with having passed the Engineer-In-Training, (EIT) or FE exam.
