General Description:
Commercial building retrofit represents a significant opportunity for Apogee. This initiative will target building owners, property managers, consultants, and energy service companies by identifying and executing opportunities in the renovation market for each of the Apogee business units. The Apogee approach provides a consistent, deliberate, comprehensive structure that allows our customers to select identifying building envelope needs through differentiating our approach, from the regionalized competition faced in the marketplace. Our companies' products are uniquely positioned to remediate water and air infiltration while improving the aesthetics and energy performance of a building. These upgrades increase the building value, potential rents, and occupant wellbeing through thermal comfort and daylighting. The engineering support and breadth of resources gives Apogee a competitive advantage in this market place. If 1% of the existing commercial building stock is renovated in a year it would be a larger market than the current new construction market. The overall objective for this position is to help Apogee and its architectural companies sell their products to the target markets and realize maximum shareholder value from this opportunity.
Primary Responsibilities:
Knowledge of energy management program development and implementation. Extensive knowledge in computerized and pneumatic HVAC controls, lighting controls, energy management building systems, and Energy Star's Portfolio Manager. This position must understand the impact that glass and aluminum framing systems can have on HVAC and lighting systems for commercial buildings.
Ability to survey renovation projects for product application and energy modeling.
Work with energy managers of ESCO's, building owners, engineers and architects to show the impact of new glass and aluminum framing systems on building systems.
Provide whole building energy modeling for the renovation group and the architectural companies on an as needed basis
Experience using energy modeling software to evaluate building envelope, lighting and HVAC (ie EQUEST, WUFI, Energy Plus etc.)
Provide THERM and Window analysis to get surface temperatures and condensation results.
Computer experience should include AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Must have excellent verbal, written, and time management skills. Must be able to read and understand building plans and specifications. Expected to interact with all levels of ESCO's, building mangers, consultants, and glazing contractors.
Must demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Builds partnering relationships with the customer or influencer responsible for the decision making process to drive renovation sales of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Architectural products.
Work effectively between and represent Viracon, Wausau Window & Wall Systems, Tubelite, EFCO Linetec, Alumicor, Sotawall and Harmon to maximize the renovation potential for Apogee while minimizing potential glazing contractor or intercompany conflict.
Manages ongoing sales process, develops relationship, responds to and anticipates customer needs. Actively listens, probes and identifies concerns. Understands the customer's business and speaks their language. Demonstrates financial and business acumen to develop credibility, loyalty, trust and commitment.
Seeks out, targets and initiates contact with prospective customers. Develops network of contacts. Understands and leverages sales process checkpoints as well as demonstrates evidence of gaining small trial closes and commitments.
Technical promotion to building owner, property management, energy service companies (ESCO's) and consultant level product selection guidance for projects in the design phase.
Available to travel frequently 50% and represent the company in a professional manner.
Represent Apogee in an ethical and professional manner. Adhere to the guidelines established in the Apogee Code of Ethics and company's Core Values.
Adhere to established Safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for all associates.
Adhere to established Policies, Critical Business Practices (CBPs), Standards, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Technical knowledge of glass and aluminum framing products or the ability to learn these products.
Skills and Experience Required:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant sales work experience
Minimum 5 years' experience with energy modeling building facades, HVAC and lighting for commercial construction
Passionate about building retrofit; desire to be a subject matter expert
Ability to provide leadership through effective communication, work ethic and personal excellence
Demonstrated success interacting with external parties -- architects, building owners, contractors, other executives
Ability to influence/work across multiple businesses and balance different needs or concerns to find the best answer for Apogee shareholders
Understanding of product management/product strategy concepts and analytical approach
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in engineering field preferred; related industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and industry experience. Architectural degree with building envelope experience is a plus.

Ability use energy modeling software (EQUEST, DOE or other)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) a plus or must be able to pass CEM requirements.
LEED certification a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment/Travel
Depending on the residence of the employee this position will work from a home office or an Apogee company office if a business unit is located in close proximity.
It is expected that the person be open to travel 50% of the time
The candidate will be expected to operate in an office and a commercial construction environment. Jobsite visits will be expected.
