**Role Summary:**

Controlled title position appointed under the OGQ-ENG-6.2-0001

Demonstrates technical depth in a business, technology / science to make own technical decisions

Competent at technical presentations and writing reports

Is a recognized resource for technical consulting/mentoring

Provides consultation & guidance to Engineers and peers within work group on assignments & problems.

Maintains active role & proficiency in the state of the art in own technology field.

**Essential Responsibilities:**

Requires that all activities be in compliance with the company policies and procedures relating to Safety, Health and Environmental protection. Responsible for ensuring that their own and the activities of others satisfy the Technical Operating Policies and Procedures (TOPPS). Requires that all design and verification activities satisfy ISO 9001,ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.

Supervising the mechanical engineering activities from initial customer requirements and developing them into design specifications, verifying the design and then converting them into manufacturing and operating specifications. Attention to Risk Assessment and Performance verification of the system. Monitoring quality of the Design Process Management (DPM) and development of those reporting to him / her. Continued review of Engineering Procedures for efficiency improvements and the mentoring of others in those procedures.

Responsible to the customer for developing the design safety/environmental and structural verification plan for the project to satisfy the HSE requirements for offshore developments. In doing so, will supervise those reporting to him / her in identifying, assessing and taking action to mitigate those risks to people, plant and the environment as a consequence of the engineering activities. Ensure lessons learned are well communicated and reflected in the design activities.

Establish an overall task list for the project to ensure all necessary engineering deliverables are identified to satisfy the contractual and third party requirements for the work. Interpreting the customer and regulatory requirement and define the engineering deliverables and assigning them to the appropriate team members. Identifying and verifying variations to the scope of work within the project.

Establishing the planning process through to the development of a schedule for all the engineering activities for the work. Defining the level of detail required, defining the resources required and formatting a schedule and communicating it to all interested parties in the work. Be responsible for the progress of the team and expediting work. Establish remedial action procedures/ plans when progress falls below plan.

Engage with the Engineering Manager Projects and secure and verify the resources necessary to execute the work. Manage the process for identifying and approving the resources, secure the appropriate resources, implement any contractual obligations for those resources relative to the work, and verify the resource plan throughout the work. Where there are anomalies in the quality and execution of the work, to identify actions to correct those anomalies

Ensure lessons learned from prior experience are continually assessed and implemented into the works through the improvement loop and project lessons learned meetings. Where opportunities exist for improving the outcome either through, risk reduction, cost reduction and or performance improvement the lessons learned should be assessed and if appropriate implemented into the works or future specifications for the work. Where appropriate, communicate to all Technical Staff Worldwide as appropriate.


Continuation of Essential Responsibilities:

Ensure the Engineering activities are implemented from the initial definition of customer requirements, planning the works through to the final handover to the client, e.g.

Monitoring, coordinating and controlling the activities and particularly those interfacing with the client and third parties.

Development of an interface register and ensuring the close out of interfaces meet the project schedule. In conjunction with the Project Manager resolve all interface disputes.

Verifying and complying with regulatory requirements

Coordinating, controlling and communicating costs and where appropriate monitoring and negotiating for variation orders when the scope changes

Ensuring health safety and environmental risk control are paramount

Ensuring quality and quality plans are maintained


Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent extensive design experience in lieu or equivalent knowledge and experience.

Substantial post graduate industrial experience of which a significant element should be in heavy mechanical engineering or in a relevant technical discipline e.g. analysis.
