This Senior Engineer position will provide support to the Relay Construction and Maintenance crews to include relay testing, relay test routine development and management, relay regulatory compliance, and also technical training and guidance. Incumbents are expected to have advanced relay testing skills and have the ability to provide leadership and work independently.
Wenwood/Greenville SC, Charlotte NC, or Fairfax/Greensborro NC
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
Minimum 5 years of engineering experience
Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E)
Expert knowledge with E/M and Microprocessor based relay testing
Expert knowledge with Enoserv RTS
Working Knowledge of Enoserv PowerBase
Expert knowledge of processes required to meet NERC regulatory compliance.
Computer coding experience similar to that needed for extended BASIC.
Knowledge of Microsoft Access database structure.
Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint.
Proficient in engineering theories and principles
Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations,
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds,
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in principles of project management
Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
Experience in the utility industry
Duties & Responsibilities
With minimal supervision and latitude for un-reviewed work:
Provide technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems associated with relay test plans.
Evaluate relay test plans, adjust and lock down test tolerance values.
Provide onsite technical support for automated relay testing.
Collaborate directly with Transmission Asset Mgmt/Tech Support to review relay misoperations to determine if existing test routines need to be modified to ensure proper settings and calibration verification, and/or if new test routines are needed
Maintain, update, edit, and distribute the master database for all Duke Energy Progress relay testing routines.
Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
Collaborate closely with C&M NERC compliance to ensure relay technician work processes align with regulatory requirements.
Troubleshoot, document and share information to resolve problems associated with relay testing software functionality, software upgrades and software installation.
Participate in meetings and present technical material to educate/inform other Engineering Technologists and Relay Technicians.
Strive to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skill and performance.
Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
