This is the first level of the Engineering classification. The Transmission Integrity Engineer (Engineer 1) ensures transmission pipeline safety through integrity management principles. The position supports the overall administration and implementation of the Transmission Integrity Management Program to ensure compliance with 49 CFR 192 Supart O for approximately 3,000 miles of transmission pipeline and 300 miles of High Consequence Areas. The engineer I shall provide engineering/technical expertise to solve problems, and leadership skills to provide oversight of work in a specific area of expertise, with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills in their field of study, and the ability to work with greater independence.
Nature and Scope
The Transmission Integrity Engineer is responsible for assisting with the overall administration and implementation of the Transmission Integrity Management Program to ensure compliance with 49 CFR Part 192 Subpart O. The Integrity Engineers main responsibilities include scheduling and overseeing the completion of integrity assessments, managing data collected from assessments and integrating the data into the program to enhance program effectiveness. The Integrity Engineer must stay informed of new regulations, advisory bulletins, and new technologies affecting Transmission Integrity Management. The incumbent will also be involved in HCA and Class location analysis, threat assessment, risk assessment, prevention and mitigated measures, performance metrics including the annual DOT report submittals, management of change as well as MAOP efforts.
The Integrity Engineers role requires collaboration with all functional areas and contractors regarding the planning, prioritization and data collection of all field and program activities related to the transmission integrity program. The
incumbent is responsible for working with external contractors assisting with Transmission Integrity Management activities and directing and managing the
work to support the requirements of 49 CFR Part 192, Subpart O.
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of routine problems in their area of expertise
Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees
Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondences, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems
Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity
Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
Maintains accurate records and files
Supports the companys goals and represents the company positively and professionally
Corporate office or plant environment
Bachelor of Science in Engineering obtained from an ABET accredited program, OR a Masters degree in Engineering in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. We will also consider May 2018 graduates.
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles
Understanding of the basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
Understanding of the basic principles of project management
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
Passing grade on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
Experience in the utility industry
Some travel required
