Responsibilities
Responsible for working with Business Developers to identify customer
issues and develop cost effective solutions at large commercial,
industrial and institutional sites. Project design includes the
development, engineering and commissioning of energy related products
and services, typically on the customer side of the meter. Current
solutions focus areas are medium and low voltage electric
infrastructure, back-up power systems (including standby generation
and UPS), power quality, monitoring and control systems, facility
assessments, outdoor lighting and industrial processes. PM II role
includes leadership responsibilities that may include mentoring new
team members and developing\/managing relationships with key external
partners. Job has accountability for:
* 35% – Contacting large industrial, commercial, or institutional
customers through a business development process to identify the
issues and provide commercially available solutions within the
customers’ budget constraints.
* 55% – Investigation, design and development of innovative
solutions to resolve customer issues. Solutions may be implemented
inside the customer’s facility or on the Duke side of the meter.
Provide pricing and sales support for these projects.
* 5% – Assist with commissioning projects after construction to
ensure the system operates as intended in the original project
design scope.
* 5%- Development and maintenance of equipment specifications that
meet the qualifications of standard designs and are acceptable to
the construction and maintenance arms of Energy Services.
Position requires an individual that is customer-focused, team
oriented, has a strong background in commercial\/industrial design
engineering, and has the ability to become an expert advisor in
specific product areas. Individual will be accountable for leading or
assisting the work group and management in interpreting and evaluating
existing and proposed codes, processes, products, standards,
regulations, requirements, and guidelines.
Basic\/Required Qualifications
* 4 year Technical Degree or 9 years relevant experience in lieu of
a degree.
* Five years of project management or related experience. Includes
demonstrated project management skills that resulted in projects
delivered on-time, on-budget and on-scope.
* Demonstrated ability to assume total project responsibilities
including quality assurance, customer interface, internal
reporting and financial evaluation.
* Demonstrated ability to perform work in compliance with applicable
safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
* Five years of project engineering experience in electric
infrastructure or related field.
* Ability to obtain Electrical, Mechanical or General Contractor
licenses.
* Customer focused with demonstrated experience working closely with
customers to manage customer issues in a professional manner.
* Commercial mindset that can assess and resolve customer issues
with innovative options based on customer cost guidelines and
quality standards.
* Demonstrated experience in negotiating contracts and managing
internal and external contractors and consultants to meet customer
goals of scope and schedule.
* Demonstrated ability to speak and write in a clear, concise, and
organized manner using correct grammar – ability to document, make
recommendations and influence others to common vision and action.
Demonstrated ability to represent Duke Energy and effectively
communicate technical and business impacts to technical and
non-technical individuals within Duke Energy’s and customers’
organization.
Desired Qualifications
* BS degree in engineering or related field from an accredited
college or university.
* MBA, Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Manager or Certified
Project Manager.
* License holder for Electrical, Building or Public Utility
Contracting.
* Nine years of project management or related experience in
delivering electric infrastructure to large commercial, industrial
and institutional customers.
* Five years of commercial and industrial Electrical or Mechanical
design engineering experience.
* Experience with design\/installation\/operation of back-up power
systems, monitoring and controls equipment, power quality, energy
efficiency measures.
* Experience directing a diverse technical project team to meet a
common goal and timeline.
* Demonstrated ability to develop skills and become expert advisor
for entire offer delivery team. Topics will include technical or
business issues.
* Demonstrated history of continuous improvement in job-related
technical, business and professional knowledge and skills. Areas
of focus include safety codes  practices, engineering codes 
standards, regulations, and company procedures, and market 
technical trends.
* Demonstrated ability to assume total project responsibilities
including quality assurance, customer interface, internal
reporting and financial evaluation. Demonstrated ability to
perform work in compliance with applicable safety policies,
procedures, and guidelines.
* Demonstrated ability in business development processes
developing customer relationships, making recommendations and
providing solutions to the commercial and industrial markets,
leading to deal close.
* Demonstrated ability to innovate and provide options to customer
issues that are complex in nature and for which there are no
existing guidelines or known commercial solutions.
* Working knowledge of computerized reporting systems.
* Working knowledge of available commercial equipment and contractor
network.
* Working experience applying NEC and NESC codes to commercial and
Industrial project designs.
