The Power Electronics Engineer will be the key contributor in developing the Renewable O&M Team's solar inverter and wind converter strategy for qualifying, purchasing, maintenance, refurbishment and replacement.
This position will be responsible for a variety of field start-up oversight and field service SME functions on all components of power electronics equipment, including execution of commissioning protocols, acceptance tests, and site training, and assisting the site manager in maintaining project equipment reliability. This position will also maintain the quality of projects through strict adherence to industry standards.
*Be the Renewable power electronics SME for the O&M group by demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of power electronic technologies, DCDC converters, inverters and wind converters
*Develop total cost of ownership models for various types of renewable power electronics *Work with development engineering to evaluate new product lines and determine long-term reliability and O&M cost *Develop strategies for replacement and / or refurbishment of existing inverters and converters *Review historical failure rates and recommend changes to maintenance practices or design to improve reliability *Work with warranty manager to ensure warranties are adequate to protect power electronics equipment *Assist field personnel with failure analysis and training needs *Maintain knowledge of the latest technology and maintenance practices through relationships with IE's, vendors and customers *Work with SCADA/Controls team to develop improved preventative maintenance monitoring and reporting tools for inverters and converters
*Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Education / Experience
*Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar (e.g. military training in a similar field) is required *Minimum of 3 years of experience in power electronics
*Inverter experience is highly desired in this position *Experience developing and analyzing power electronics cost models related to operations & maintenance is desired
*Normal office environment and/or plant environment, including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas. *Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment. *Occasionally requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.) *May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals *Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities. *Flexibility to work overtime and non-standard working hours as required *Requires occasional travel (up to 25%).
