Senior Engineer
Position Summary
This position will report to the Manager II of Power Quality,
Reliability, and Integrity and can be located at any Duke Energy
Operations Complex in the Central Florida area. The exact location
will be determined at offer based on business needs.
This position is responsible for providing power quality technical
assistance and engineering support to high revenue customers and their
assigned Large Account Management (LAM) Account Executives. Problem
solving scope includes power quality and mechanical system issues,
system optimization, and energy efficiency improvements, etc.
Expertise should include engineering investigations, independent field
survey work and analysis of various industrial facilities, commercial
buildings, and technical support for the commercial and industrial
sectors as required. This position must possess a detailed
understanding of the Power Delivery Grid from distribution and
transmission to metering technologies. Incumbents should be recognized
leaders in their discipline, mechanical or electrical engineering.
Incumbents will be expected to participate in continuous training to
maintain advanced knowledge of complex electrical and mechanical
systems and emerging technologies in the electric utility industry,
and be capable of analysis, design and implementation of customer
solutions. Incumbents should have an extensive knowledge of industrial
processes, utility system operations, project management capabilities,
and a passion for customer service.
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Learn and practice a Safety First attitude incorporating
company safety rules and policies in all aspects of daily work.
Must be customer focused and possess a comfort working with
customers on a daily basis.
Work independently and under general supervision performing tasks
indicative of the job.
Develop, design and source industrial and commercial power
quality, mechanical, or process improvement solutions, which
contribute to the success of enterprise customers.
Possess understanding of emerging grid technologies and
distribution automation.
Provide day to day technical assistance and training to the
account managers. Make joint calls with account executives to
understand customer problems and identify technically sound
Establish and maintain industry contacts to facilitate the
implementation of engineered solutions (power quality and process
improvement) that improve the profitability of enterprise
Identify and address competitive threats affecting customers and
our company. Develop technical solutions to competitive threats.
Retain and grow company s revenue streams and profitability by
identifying technical solutions that increase customer
satisfaction and customer profitability.
Develop strong relationships with distribution engineering and
operations and possess the skills necessary to create change in
processes to better serve LAM customers needs.
Support community activities and economic development efforts as
Show leadership and discern trends in the industry.
Understand financial terms, profit margins and Industry Technical

to obtain intelligence on industry groups, customers, trade allies
and competitors and to develop strategies to direct our retention

Basic/Required Qualifications
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor
of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state
registration as a Professional Engineer. A Masters degree in
engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering
5 years of engineering experience
State registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
Desired Qualifications
* Experience in the utility industry specific to electric
distribution systems
* Experience with large commercial and industrial
electrical/mechanical systems
* Experience with addressing power quality, reliability, and
integrity (PQRI) issues for large industrial customers
* Proficient in engineering theories and principles
* Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design
issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and
preparing and presenting recommendations,
* Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various
socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds,
* Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
* Proficient in principles of project management
* Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
* Experience in the utility industry
