The Electrical Engineer assures that the electrical facilities are constructed, maintained, and operated to industry accepted standards in accordance with sound engineering design. He or she will assure that the electrical facilities meet RUS standards and code requirements. He or she will adequately plan long and short range plans and programs for the orderly development of distribution and substation facilities.
Role and Responsibilities:
Maintains knowledge of territorial assignment laws and regulations.
Maintains knowledge of RUS CFR’s and bulletins relating to engineering, loans, contracts and 740C coding, billing rates, power supplier rates, competitive rates and cooperative policies.
Performs coordination studies to ensure the reliability of the electrical system.
Responsible for compliance with all RUS, NESC and other regulatory codes and procedures.
Prepares or assists in preparation of loan applications including work plan, power requirement study, 740C Form, and other required documents.
Analyzes data to determine feasibility of technical proposals.
Prepares portions of the budget.
Provides assistance needed to insure that adequate service, including continuity of service, is provided to non-interruptible, critical loads.
Assists in maintaining hardware for Load Management systems.
Directs the development of the annual construction plan 2 or 4-year work plan and long-range engineering and operations studies.
Prepares short and long range work plans, power requirements studies, and other system studies.
Directs the design of both single and three-phase line construction.
Compiles information needed for all required reports.
Directs and oversees the distribution systematic upgrade and preventive maintenance program.
Reviews and solves power quality problems.
Works with engineering consulting firms in the preparation of technical studies.
Assists in design and layout of underground subdivisions and other developments.
Prepares lighting layouts and assists customers with other engineering related matters.
Provides technical support with voltage drop analysis, motor start analysis, fault current analysis and other technically related areas.
Develops the Cooperative’s annual revenue forecast for all types of consumers including Large Industrial special contracts, industrial, commercial, residential, street lighting and all other product/services offered by the Cooperative to the membership.
Assists in maintaining Engineering Analysis model.
Assists with technical support and lends guidance to staking technicians in the design and layout of construction projects as needed – particularly with large power loads.
Works with large power customers and power quality issues.
Participates in safety meetings and training programs as required.

Successful candidates will have a four (4) year degree in Electric Engineering, professional Engineer’s license and five years of experience at an electric utility, which included work in distribution planning, construction management, electric utility operations and/or maintenance.
