WSP is currently initiating a search for a Traction Power Engineer for our Oakland, Ca office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Traction Power Supply and Distribution Design Engineer for Rail Transit Systems.

Ensure that company technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of projects for clients.

Project work would include Power Supply and Distribution Design for Light Rail, Heavy Rail, Commuter Rail and High Speed Rail Projects operating on Overhead Contact or Third Rail Systems

Utilizes sound electrical engineering practices to develop designs and reports.

Prepares power system studies for AC and DC electrified railway systems

Develop and review designs and technical specifications.

Develop cost estimates and projections

Participate in project working meetings

Completeness and accuracy of design team work.

Review shop drawings, record changes and communicate directly with suppliers, contractors and client representatives as required.

Support the installation and testing of traction power systems components and software.

Performs site investigations in substations and along railroad tracks

Identify construction costs trending out of budget.

Work location would include both Home Office and short term travel to Cities installing or planning to install Electrified Transit Systems. Long term field assignments are also available.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

BSCEE / Electrical Engineering Degree

5 Years experience in design of traction power systems

Experience working on large transit/railroad projects with substations, 3rd rail and/or overhead contact distribution systems

Proficiency with MS Office software, CAD software

Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients and team members

Ability to work in this country immediately required
