We are currently recruiting for two experienced Combined Cycle Operators
to join our team in Beloit, WI
which is centrally located between Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison.
In this role, you will perform a variety of work connected with the operations, inspections, and maintenance of Combined Cycle Generation sites. Varied mechanical, basic electrical and basic control and instrument maintenance activities and other duties necessary to maintain steam & electric generation facilities.
Work will be performed under the general supervision of a salaried Manager or Master Combined Cycle Operator as assigned. Site responsibility will be given in the absence of management.
For this position you will start within the range of $33.66-$42.08/hour. Once you are fully trained, your pay will start at
and you will earn step increases up to $44.09/hour in this role.
Shifts are typically from
, typical hours will be 36 hours Week 1 and 48 hours Week 2. Additional overtime is required for vacation, vacancy coverage and needs of service. Schedule is subject to change depending on plant needs.
This position requires the applicant to
live within 60 minutes
of the assigned headquarters. (Relocation expense eligibility may be considered.)
Riverside Generating Station Overview:
This is the initial wave of hiring for expanding the staff of an existing 675 Megawatt plant. The existing facility is a 2 x 1 natural gas fired combined cycle with two (2) frame 7FA GE Gas turbines and a Siemens steam turbine. Riverside Energy Center is located on a 315-acre campus with an attached 2MW solar facility and Alliant Energy’s Southern Operations Center. There are an additional 5 natural gas fired peaking gas turbines totaling 200 Megawatts run by the staff.
A new 700 Megawatt 2 x 1 natural gas fired combined cycle plant with two (2) frame 7FA.05 GE Gas Turbines and a GE steam turbine is currently under construction and will be in service by 2020. The new facility will add an additional 90 acres and 2.3 Megawatts worth of solar to the existing energy center footprint.
The resulting two power blocks will be operated as one staff with operators working at both facilities.
This position will be expected to perform duties as a Control Room Operator at both facilities on top of all other operational duties.
This position will be involved with startup and commissioning of the new plant in addition to operating the existing plant. However, this is
a temporary or solely commissioning position.

Performs Combined Cycle operations, inspections, and maintenance in a safe and efficient manner adhering to all company guidelines to ensure compliance with all city, state, and federal regulations.
Performs and participates in job safety briefings, safety reviews and safety observations. Maintains proficiency in operation of Combined Cycle Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
Performs Contractor safety orientations and job safety briefings with contractors performing work, as required. Works closely with contractors on troubleshooting, repairing and/or installing equipment.
Observes, operates and initiates repairs to Combined Cycle equipment.
Maintains an accurate operating log of equipment and performs preventive maintenance to sustain equipment availability and reliability.
Performs and documents routine inspections and maintenance of the site, Combined Cycle and related equipment utilizing Maximo and predictive and preventive maintenance processes and procedures.
Performs and documents routine inspections of the site, Combined Cycle and related equipment, and collects and retains necessary data to support regulatory permit requirements and reporting.
Maintains performance monitoring and control equipment. Monitors gas and steam turbine performance. Keeps testing records as assigned.
Participates in the performance of warehouse activities, ordering supplies as needed, and supports inventory activities.
Ensures monitoring, calibration and minor repairs of recording and indicating instrumentation including emissions control & monitoring systems are performed.
Performs and participates in regular inspections, overhauls and maintenance of related plant equipment.
Maintains and operates water treatment systems. Receives and unloads acid, caustic and other chemicals needed for the operation of the facility. Troubleshoots and ensures repairs to the water treatment system controls and valves. Maintains optimum water treatment system performance and environmental water permits compliance.
Performs tests and reports data on water treatment systems. Safely operates mobile equipment to perform maintenance tasks.
Performs various generating plant and shop area housekeeping functions.
Supports safety, plant reliability, productivity, and plant efficiency improvements by participating in various continuous improvement activities.
Performs all work according to established procedures and safety practices.
Performs other duties which are similar, related or incidental to this position. Qualified to
perform the duties of subordinate positions including Combined Cycle Operator II and laboratory positions.
Train other employees to qualify in this and subordinate positions.
Supports operation and maintenance activities at other generating facilities as needed. Travel, including overnight travel, might be required.
Minimum two years Power Generation maintenance and/or operations experience.
Two years in any one or a combination of the electrical, mechanical or instrument and control trades or two years of Combined Cycle maintenance and/or operations experience.
Strong sense of personal and technical responsibility.
Strong leadership ability.
Possess necessary skills in basic electrical, basic instrument and control and basic mechanical.
Ability to work from blueprints, diagrams, drawings, and specifications.
High degree of mechanical and/or electrical aptitude.
Demonstrated technical ability.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work environment.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate work and work with others.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems.
A thorough understanding of the physical aspects of a Combined Cycle Generating Facility including open combustion processes, thermodynamics, physics, and theory of operation.
Knowledge of company safety rules.
